In a competitive exam consisting of 100 questions, each correct answer gets 2 marks and each wrong answer gets -1 mark. If a student has written 70 correct answers and 30 wrong answers, what is his/her score? full example

Since a student answered 100 questions therefore, x+y=100 that is

x= 100-y (1)

Also it is given that 2 marks is awarded for correct ans while 1 mark is deduced for every wrong ans. and the student got 70*2=140 marks therefore,

x-1=140 (2)

subtituting the value of eq.1 in eq.2:

100-y-1= 140-2y= -30
