in a competitive test a student expected to get 20% more marks then the pass mark. but he got 40% more. if he got 70 marks actually what was the mark he expected to get at first.

40/10×7

280/10

28

x+28=70

×=70-28

x=42

The 20% is half of 40%

so, 42+14=56

So the marks he expected was 56
