Given info : In a compound containing Si and O, 3.25 g of the compound contains 1.25 g of Si, and the remainder is O. In another sample of a compound of Si and O, 2.45 g of the compound contains 1.62 g of Si, and the rest is O.

To find : The percentage composition of each compound is...

solution : In a compound containing Si and O, 3.25 g of the compound contains 1.25 g of Si, and the remainder is O.

mass of Si = 1.25 g

mass of O = mass of compound - mass of Si

= 3.25 - 1.25 = 2.00g

now percentage composition of Si = 1.25/3.25 × 100

= 125/3.25 = 38.46 %

percentage composition of O = 100 % - 38.46 % = 61.54 %

In another sample of a compound of Si and O, 2.45 g of the compound contains 1.62 g of Si, and the rest is O.

mass of Si = 1.62 g

mass of O = mass of compound - mass of Si

= 2.45 - 1.62 = 0.83 g

now percentage composition of Si = 1.62/2.45 × 100

= 162/2.45 = 66.1225 %

percentage composition of O = 100 % - 66.1225 %

= 33.8775 %
