Answer:

Given,

No. of oatmeal = 17

No. of peanut butter cookies = 12

No. of sugar cookies = 9

Total no = 38

a) No of selecting a sugar cookie = 9

Probability = no of sugar cookies ÷ total no

= 9 ÷ 38

Therefore probability of selecting a sugar cookie is 9/38

b) No of selecting a sugar or peanut butter cookies = 12 + 9 = 21

P ( selecting a sugar or peanut butter cookie )

Probability = no of sugar or peanut butter cookie ÷ total no

= 21 ÷ 38

Therefore probability of selecting a sugar or peanut butter cookie

is 21/38

c) No of not selecting an oatmeal cookie = 38 - 17 = 21

Probability = no of not selecting an oatmeal cookie ÷ total no

= 21 ÷ 38

Therefore probability of not selecting an oatmeal cookie is 21/38
