Answer:

A) 81.6

B) 4 sec

Both Answers are rounded off

Explanation:

A)

v = 0

g =  - 9.8m/s^2

u = 40m/s

Apply the 3rd equation of Motion

v^2 - u^2 = 2aS

=>  0^2 - 40^2 = 2 x -9.8 x S

=> S = 81.6 m (approx)

B)

v = u + at

0 = 40 + (- 9.8 x t)

t = 4 sec (approx)

Note: 9.8 m/s^2 is acceleration due to gravity and we're taking it as negative bcoz the ball is moving upwards against the acceleration due to gravity
