In a democracy the majority of people rule through their elected representatives because those who are getting elected are selected by the wish of people.

It is also called representative democracy. The population is so much that it is physically impossible for the whole population to sit together. ... Moreover every citizen does not have enough time and skill to take all these decisions. So the people rule through their elected representatives.
