Solution:

1) The discount on the purchase of Rs 6000 is given by:

• (40/100)of 6000

• Rs. 2400

2) The suitcase cost Rs 9000 is also considered as the discount from the shopkeeper.

3) So the marked price would be 9000 + 6000 = Rs. 15000

• Total discount is 2400+9000 = Rs. 11400.

Total discount % is given by:

• (Discount/ Marked price) × 100

• (11400/15000)×100

• 1140/15

• 76%

The overall discount % if the total purchase value was exactly Rs.6000 is 76%.
