A double displacement reaction, also known as a double replacement reaction or metathesis reaction, is a type of reaction that occurs when the cations and anions switch between two reactants to form new products. ... A gas formation reaction is when two compounds react to form a gaseous product.

What is Double Displacement Reaction ?

The reaction in which the ions in the reactants are exchanged to form a precipitate are called as Double Displacement Reaction.

For example :

BASO4 + K2CrO4 ==> BaCrO4 + K2SO4

Here, Potassium chromate solution reacts with Barium Sulphate solution to form Potassium Sulphate solution and a yellow precipitate of Barium Chromate.
