Let total no of vote=x

A/Q...

candidate who got 40% vote,defeated by

15000 votes

that means(no of votes of winner-no of votes

for losser=15000)

((60*x)/100)-(40*x)/100)=15000

after solving we got

x=75000

no of vote polled by winning

candidate=((3*75000)/5)=45000

let total votes be x
The total no of votes the lost candidate got = 40% of x
no of votes he was defeated by = 15000
therefore 15000 is 60% of the total votes

40* 15000/ 60 = 10000

10000+ 15000 = 25000
therefore Total no of votes = 25000

the no of votes given to the winning candidate is 60% so votes = 10000

A) 25000
B) 10000

hope the answer is helpful..
