In a electric motor, the brushes are made of carbon. can't we use graphite?

the function of carbon brushes into motor is to make contact with rotating rings of commutator and through them to supply current to coil .
Even graphite can be used instead of carbon for the following reasons:
Graphite is allotropic form of carbon
Graphite is good conductor and also best self lubricant.
