Given:

Unit cell = Face centered

X atoms located at corners

Y atoms located at face centers

Solution:

No. of atoms of X from corners of unit cell = \frac{7}{8}

(Because, as atoms X are present only in 7 corners it will be = 7×\frac{1}{8} = \frac{7}{8})

No. of atoms of Y from faces of unit cell = 3 (∵standard value for face centered cell)

As to find the formula of the compound, the ration of atom X and Y is to be calculated

∴ X :  Y

\frac{7}{8} = 3

7 = 24

Thus the value of X is 7, whereas Y is 24.

Conclusion:

The formula of the compound would be X_7Y_{24}.
