----------------------------------------

Here is the solution:

----------------------------------------

Final population  = Initial population (1 + growth rate)ⁿ where n is the number of years.

Find the growth rate:

48400 = 40000( 1 + n)²

(1 + n)² = 48400  ÷ 40000

(1 + n)² = 1.21

1 + n = √1.21

1 + n = 1.1

n = 1.1 - 1

n = 0.1

Convert to percentage:

0.1 = 0.1 x 100% = 10%

Answer: The growth rate is 10%
