In a family there are 20 people. You have to divide 20 kg of rice in such a way that a man gets 3 kg of rice a woman gets 2 kg and a child gets half kg of rice. Find out how many men, woman and children are there.

Let the number of men be x
Let the number of women be y
Therefore, number of children are 20 - (x+y)
Rice given to men = 3x
Rice given to women = 2y
Rice given to children = .5 [20 - (x+y)]
= 10 - .5x - .5y
Acc. to the ques 3x + 2y + 10 - .5x - .5y = 20
2.5x + 1.5y = 10
Multiplying both sides by 2
5x + 3y = 20
The question is incomplete and therefore there is no second equation to solve the question properly.
But, we can find the answer by substituting values into the equation that we have.
If we put x = 1,
we get y = 5 and z = 14.
And this is the only possible answer to the question.
