In a forest, a big tree got broken due to heavy rain and wind. Due to this rain the big branches AB and AC
fell down in the ground. Branch AC makes an angle of 80 with the branch AB.
And branch AB makes and angle 50 with the ground. ..

Then answer the following questions
1. Find the angle ACD.
2. If AM is the median BC =9cm find the length of CM.
3. Do you think Δ ABC is an isosceles triangle and why?

Answer:

Let A'CB represents the tree before it broken at the point C and let the top A' touches the ground at A after it broke. Then ΔABC is a right angled triangle, right angled at B.

AB=12m and BC=5m

Using Pythagoras theorem, In ΔABC

(AC)

2

+(AB)

2

+(BC)

2

⇒(AC)

2

=(12)

2

+(5)

2

⇒(AC)

=144+25

⇒(AC)

=169

⇒AC=13m

Hence, the total height of the tree=AC+CB=13+5=18m.
