left men=600-100=500 men
left days=180-40=140
men provision for days
600 140
500 x
it is inverse variation
so,
600/500=x/140
x=(600×140)/500
×=84000/500
x=168
the remaing food will last for 168 days.

Given,

The number of men in the fort = 600.

They have food for 180days.

The number of people left = 100.

To Find,

The number of days the remaining food can be used.

Solution,

Given that,

There are 600men in the fort.

They have provisions for 180days.

100people left after 40days from the fort.

The remaining people in the fort after 100men leave,

600-100 = 500.

The remaining days =

180-40 = 140days.

The provisions will be there for 600men for 140days.

Therefore, the provision will be there for 1 man is 600 *140

Therefore,

the remaining 500 people have food for =

(600*140)/500= 168days.

Hence,168days the food will last after 100men leaves.
