In a fruit fly Drosophila melangogaster, there is a recessive variety in which the wings are reduced to stumps. This variety is called vestigial winged . A vestigial winged fly was mates with a normal winged fly and produce 101 offspring with normal wings and 93 flies with vestigial wings
