Solution :

1) Salt bridge is a U- tube containing electrolyte like KCl, KNO3 etc in semi- solid agar. It connects two half cells. The main uses of salt bridge are:

2) Salt bridge maintains the electrical neutrality of each half cell
The transfer of electrons from Zn anode to Cu cathode develops excess +ve ions in ZnSO4 solution due to Zn2+ ions and excess -ve ions in CuSO4 solution due to SO42- ions which are neutralized by Cl- and K+ of salt bridge.

3) Salt bridge maintains the flow of current by completing the circuit
The circuit is completed externally by conducting wire for flow of current and internally by salt bridge for flow of ions.

4) The salt bridge is important for the functionality of galvanic cells as it helps in maintenance of neutrality, for example if salt bridge is not present will result in the accumulation of positive and negative charges in the compartment resulting circuit break in simple salt bridge acts as circuit closer for the flow of electrons.

5) The strong electrolytes like NaOH, NaCl, HCl .., favours the flow of electron at optimal rate for maintaining the smooth operation of galvanic cells

Answer: A,B

Explanation:

It doesn't participate chemically in the cell reaction as it maintains electrical neutrality. It stops the mixing of ions of one electrode to another.

My explanation may not be elaborate as it's purely based on theory , I don't know to give a proper explanation.

Hope it helps.
