In a galvanometer there is a deflection of 1.0 divisions per Ma.the internal resistance of the galvanometer is 60ohm . if a shunt of 2.5 ohm is connected to the galavometer ,calculate the the maximum current in which the galvanometer can be dead.

The maximum current in which the galvanometer can be read is 125 mA

- Given:

deflections per mA =  0.1 divisions

G = 60 Ω

S = 2.5 Ω

-the galvanometer has 50 divisions, so for full scale division, current required

 I_{g} = deflections per mA × no. of divisions

     = 0.1 × 50

 I_{g} = 5 mA

-let I be the maximum current that galvanometer can read

- then

I_{g} × G = (I- I_{g})S

on substituting the given values in it, we get

5 × 60 = (I-5) 2.5

300/2.5 = I - 5

120 = I -5

 I = 125 mA
