Given :- In a game, Arun scored 3 points more than thrice a number of points, scored by Vivek. If the product of their scores be 90 points, find the number of points scored by each. ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, vivek scored x points in the game.

Than,

→ Arun scored = 3 points more than thrice a number of points, scored by Vivek.

→ Arun scored = 3 + 3x

→ Arun scored = (3x + 3) points.

given that, the product of their scores be 90 points .

Therefore,

x * (3x + 3) = 90

→ 3x² + 3x - 90 = 0

→ 3(x² + x - 30) = 0

→ x² + x - 30 = 0

→ x² + 6x - 5x - 30 = 0

→ x(x + 6) - 5(x + 6) = 0

→ (x - 5)(x + 6) = 0

→ x = 5 or (-6).

Hence,

vivek scored points = 5 or (-6) . { Points in negative also possible depends on game , if negative marking is their.}

→ Arun scored points = 18 or (-15).
