Given : In a game of chance, a spinning arrow comes to rest at

one of the numbers 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

All these are equally likely outcomes

To find  : the probability that it will rest at 8.

Let A be the event that arrow points at the number 8

Solution:

S = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 }

=> n(S) = 8

A be the event that arrow points at the number 8

=> A = { 8 }

=> n(A) = 1

P(A) = n(A)/n(S)

=> P(A) = 1/8

probability that it will rest at 8. = 1/8
