In a group of goats and hens the total no of legs is 12 more than twice the total number of heads. The number of goats is???

let no of goats 'x' and no of hens 'y'                                                                       usually goats have 4 legs and hen have 2 legs                                                    no of legs of goats are 4x and no of legs of hens are 2y                                then total then therefore total no of legs= 4x +2y                                                                                goats and hens each of them has 1 head                                                               therefore no of heads of goats are 1*x =x                                                              and no of heads of hens are 1*y=y                                                                     then total

no of heads of hen and goats =x+y   
as per the question 4x+2y=12+2[x+y] 
4x-2x+2y-2y=12
2x=12
x=6
therefore no of goats = 6
