SOLUTION

GIVEN

In a horse race six horses numbered from 1 to 6 are participating.

TO DETERMINE

The probability that all the even numbered horses complete the race first

EVALUATION

Here the total number of horses = 6

So the total number of possible outcomes = 6

The six horses numbered from 1 to 6

So the horses are { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 }

Let A be the event that all the even numbered horses complete the race first

∴ The event points for the event A is {2, 4, 6 }

So the total number of possible outcomes for the event A is 3

So the required probability

= P(A)

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{3}{6} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{1}{2} }
