The amount of milk each student gets in a day = 1/3 litre

The total Consumption of milk in a day is =  55 2/3 Litre or  167/3 Litre

Therefore, 1/3*x= 167/3 Litre

x/3 = 167/3

Multiply by 3 on both sides

x/3 *3 = 167/3 * 3

x= 167

Therefore there are 167 students in the hostel!!
