In a journey of 160km,a train covers the distance 120km at a speed of 80km/hour and the remaining distance at 40km/hour.The average speed of the train for the whole journey is:​

Average speed = Total distance / Total time

Time, T1 for 120 kms = 120/80 = 1.5 hour

Time, T2 for 40 kms = 40/40 = 1 hour

therefore, Average speed =(120+40)/(1.5+1)= 160/2.5

= 64 km /hour
