Concept

Ratio and Analysis

Find

The number of boys in the school.

Given

4/5 of the students are boys and there are 60 girls.

Solution

  • Let the total number of students in the junior school be 'Y'.
  • Then according to the given condition if 4/5 students are boys then the remaining 1/5 will surely be girls.
  • Hence, Y*(1/5)=60 i.e.  Y= 300. So, the total number of students are 300.
  • Now total number of boys = TOTAL STUDENTS - total number of girls i.e.

            Number of boys = 300-60

           Number of boys = 240.

Hence, the total number of boys in the junior school are 240.
