Answer:

43

Step-by-step explanation:

Define x:

Let the number of donkeys be x.

Since there are 114 heads,

There must be (114 - x) ostriches.

Each donkey has 4 legs and each ostrich has 2 legs.

Given that total number of legs is 314.

4x + 2(114 - x) = 314

4x + 228 - 2x = 314

2x + 228 = 314

2x = 86

x = 43

Find the number of donkeys:

Number of donkeys = x = 43

There are 43 no.of donkeys.

Here there are 114 heads and it should be 114 - x ostriches ,so ever donkey will have 4 legs and ever ostriches have 2 legs.

Here there is given that 314 total no.of legs.

 =  > 4x + 2(114 - x) = 314

 =  > 4x + 228 - 2x = 314

 =  > 2x + 228 = 314

  =  > 2x = 86

 =  > x = 43

Therefore, 43 is the no.of donkeys.
