In a lake?
Around 1960, the sparrowhawk population decreased
dramatically because pesticide in their bodies caused
females to lay eggs with shells so thin, they broke before
hatching. How could pesticide have got into their bodies?

Answer:

the pesticide here reffered is DDT . it might have gone into the water body from the nearby farmland. this water was later consumed by the birds.

Explanation:

when DDT is sprayed in the the crop feilds being non biodegradable it flows into the water body nearby.

DDT is known to cause shell thinning.

Hope it helps
