In a magnet, same poles repel and opposite poles attract. So, north repels north. Then why does a compass needle point north?

because the compass north is geographical south and compass south is geo graphical north so the south needle is painted and written 'N' so that any llayman can understand  that it is pointing north....in short it is the opp.of what is written.....
