Given  : In a math class of 30 students, 17 are boys and 13 are girls.

On a unit test, 4 boys and 5 girls made an A grade.

A student is chosen at random from the class,

To Find :  the probability of choosing a girl or an A student

Solution:

Total Students = 30

Boys = 17

Girls = 13

A grade =  4 + 5 = 9

girls with A grade =  5

choosing a girl or an A student   = Girls + A grade  - girls with A grade

= 13  + 9  - 5

= 17

probability of choosing a girl or an A student  = 17/30
