In a Mathematics paper there are 10 problems. Each correct answers carries (+5) marks whereas for each incorrect answer (-3) marks are deducted from the marks scored. Abdul Answered all questions but got only 29 marks. Find the number of correct answers given by Abdul.

Let number of correct answers be x and number of incorrect answers be y.

x+ y= 10

y= 10-x ____________(1)

According to question,

x(+5) + y(-3) = 29

5x-3y= 29

from (1),

5x-3(10-x) = 29

5x-30+3x= 29

8x= 59

x= 59/8

x= 7.375
