In a meter bridge experiment, two resistances p and q are connected in series in the left gap ,when the resistance is in the centre of the slide wire .if p and q are connected in parallel in the left gap ,the resistance in the right gap has to be changed to 12 so as to obtain the balance point at the same position .find p and q

Answer:

Given =

2 resistance P and Q when this resistance are connected in series in the left gap then 50 is resistance.

when this resistance are connected in parallel then the resistance is 12

to find = P and Q

solution

        P + Q / 50 = 50 /100-50

P +Q = 50 Ω.(1)

when P and Q are connectd oin parallel

PQ /P+Q = 50 /50 = 1

PQ = 12 (P+Q) = 12 X50 = 600(P -Q²)= (P+Q)²-4PQ= 50²-4X600=100

P-Q=10.(2)

solve the equation 1 and 2

we get the value of P = 30Ω and Q= 20Ω
