Answer: 0.000589mm

Concept: Interference of Light

Given: No. of Fringes, n = 200

           Change in Displacement, Δd = 0.0589mm

To Find: Wavelength of light

Explanation:

Acc. to Michelson interferometer,

If one mirror is moved by a distance Δd and N number of rings appear/disappear at the center, then the path difference after moving the mirror is given as

λ = 2(Δd)/N  ........(1)

No. of Fringes, n = 200

Change in Displacement, Δd = 0.0589mm

Put the above values in eqn. (1)

λ = 2(0.0589)/200

λ = 0,1178/200

λ = 0.000589mm

Hence, the wavelength of light is, 0.000589.
