In a mixture of 36 litres the ratio of milk and water is 3:1

let no. of parts be X

then, milk part =3x

water part =X

according to the problem,

3x+X=36

4x=36

X=36/4

X=9

therefore the mixture contains 9*3=27litres of milk,

9*1=9litrs of water .

Here is your answer:

Let the milk and water be added in x litres

Therefore, Quantity of milk in the mixture = 3X

a36nd quantity of water in the mixture=X

So, Total of the mixture = 3X+X

=4X

Quantity of milk = (3X/4X)*36

=27litres.

If 27 mitres milk is in the mixture..Then quantity of water= 36-27

9litres.
