quantity of milk = 7x

and,

quantity of water = x

According to question we have,

→ 7x + x = 40
→ 8x = 40
→ x = 40/8
→ x = 5

Hence, milk = 7x = 7 × 5 = 35 litre

and , quantity of water = x = 5 litre.
