Given:-

  • Initially, total amount of mixture= 60ltrs
  • Initially, ratio of milk : water = 2 : 1
  • We have to make the final ratio of milk : water = 1 : 2

To find:-

  • Amount of water to be added

Answer:-

Initially,

As the ratio of milk : water is 2 : 1,

▪Let the amount of milk be 2x

▪Let the amount of water be x

▪ Initially, total amount of mixture = 60

So,

2x + x = 60

→ 3x = 60

→ x = 20

▪ Initial amount of milk = 2x = (2 * 20) = 40 ltrs

▪ Initial amount of water = x = 20 ltrs

Finally,

As we have to find the amount of water to be added, that means amount of milk will remain same, only we have to add some amount of water.

▪Final amount of milk = initial amount of milk = 40 ltrs

Let the amount of water to be added be y

▪Final amount of water = initial amount of water + y = 20 + y

▪Final ratio of milk : water = 1 : 2

So,

40/(20 + y) = 1/2

→ 2 * 40 = 1 * (20 + y)

→ 80 = 20 + y

→ y = 80 - 20

y = 60 litres Ans
