Ratio of milk and water in 70 litres of mixture = 5:2

Quantity of milk initially = ×70 = 50 litres

Quantity of water initially = ×70 = 20 litres

Let us assume x litres of mixture was removed.

After removal and adding 7 litres of milk and water

Quantity of milk = 50 - +7

Quantity of water = 20 - +7

Hence,

=>200 - + 29 = 140 -2x +49

=> 228 - 189 = - 2x

=>

=> x = 45.5 litres

Ans: Quantity of mixture taken out initially was 45.5 litres.
