Fe or elemental iron will be attracted by a magnet and not Ferrous oxide, Iron is a magnetic substance.

A compound that is attracted by a magnet is triferric tetraoxide or Fe3O4, which basically has both Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions in it ( FeO + Fe2O3= Fe3O4), ferric oxide and ferrous oxide by themselves are not magnetic in nature.
