The original number of mobiles were 4000.

Let the original number of mobile phones present be x.

Given that, 20% of the mobiles produced were defective.

So, number of mobiles which are not defective = (100-20)% of x

= 80% of x

= 0.8x

Of this  0.8x mobiles, 25% were stolen.

So, number of mobiles left = (100-25)% of 0.8x

= 75% of 0.8x

= 0.6x

Given that the number of mobile phones left is 2400.

So, 0.6x = 2400

⇒ x = 2400/0.6

= 4000

This is the required answer.
