Solution:

 payment for salary was Rs 5750

 total salaries of current month are 6,000

lag in payment of salary is 1/8 month

Hence salary received = 7/8  of 6000  + (1/8) last month

7/8  of 6000  + (1/8) last month  = 5750

=> 5250 +  (1/8) last month  = 5750

=> (1/8) last month  = 500

=>  last month  = 4000

salaries of previous month​  = 4000
