Total number of valid votes will be - 9791-116 = 9675

Let the number of votes unsuccesful candidates received be x.

Then the number of votes succesful candidates received be 9675-x

Now it is given that The successful candidate got 5 votes for every 4 votes his Opponent had.

So we have

4*x = 5* 9675-x

4x = 38700-5x

9x = 38700

x = 4300

So the unsuccesful candidate got 4300 votes

And the succesful candidate got 9675-4300 = 5375 votes

Margin the succesful candidate got is 5375-4300 = 1075 votes

So the succesful candidate won by 1075 voteS
