Given :  In a normally distributed group of 450 students with mean 42 and standard deviation 8,

To Find :  number of students less than 48 marks

Solution:

Mean = 42

SD = 8

Z score = ( Value - Mean) /SD

Value  = 48

=> Z score = (42 - 48) / 8  = 0.75

=> Z score corresponding to 0.75  =  0.7734 or 77.34 %

in  Question Area corresponding to z = 0.75 is 0.2734  ( this above 50 % )

Hence 0.5 + 0.2734 = 0.7734

 0.7734  students  less than 48 marks

Total Students = 450

=> students  less than 48 marks  = 450 * 0.7734

= 348.03

= 348

number of students less than 48 marks is = 348
