In an A.P.

a3=10,a8=40

an=a+(n-1)d ...... by formula

a3=a+2d

10=a+2d

a+2d=10 .......eq1

a8=a+7d

40=a+7d

a+7d=40......eq2

sub eq1 - eq2

a+2d=10

a+7d=40

-5d=-30

d=-30/-5

d=6
