Since bleaching powder was not added while preparing the paper pulp, it obtained a yellowish and brownish colour because bleaching powder is used in production of white paper. In the production of white paper, the wood pulp is bleached with bleaching powder to remove any color from the trace amounts of lignin that was not extracted in the chemical pulping process and hence produces white paper.
