The amount invested by Vijay = Rs. 5000

Given :

  • In a partnership between Amit, Vijay and Kumar, Amit invests Rs. 2000

  • In a profit of Rs. 1600, Amit's share is Rs.400 and Kumar's share is Rs. 200

To find :

The amount invested by Vijay

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Calculate Vijay's share in profit

In a profit of Rs. 1600, Amit's share is Rs. 400 and Kumar's share is Rs. 200

∴ Vijay's share in profit

= Rs. 1600 - (Rs. 400 + Rs. 200)

= Rs. 1000

Step 2 of 3 :

Calculate investment ratio of Amit, Vijay and Kumar

Amit's share in profit = Rs. 400

Vijay's share in profit = Rs. 1000

Kumar's share in profit = Rs. 200

∴ Profit share ratio of Amit, Vijay and Kumar

= 400 : 1000 : 200

= 2 : 5 : 1

∴ Investment ratio of Amit, Vijay and Kumar

= 2 : 5 : 1

Step 3 of 3 :

Calculate amount invested by Vijay

Let amount invested by Vijay = Rs. x

By the given condition

2000 : x = 2 : 5

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies } \frac{2000}{x}  =  \frac{2}{5}

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }2x = 2000 \times 5

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }x = 1000 \times 5

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }x = 5000

Hence amount invested by Vijay = Rs. 5000
