In a period, when we move from left to right, the values of ionization enthalpies increase. Explain giving reasons.

The ionization enthalpies increases as we move from left to right in a period because the distance of the nucleus from the outermost ring increases and that makes the attraction between the electron and nucleus weak ultimately reducing the hold and making it very easy for the atom to ionize.
