In a photograph of a man rowing a boat the oars seem to be broken.Explain. Answer should be related to physics only and class 10

This is due to the refraction of light. Water is denser than air. Hence, when the light ray hits the surface of the water, its speed decreases and it moves towards the normal. So it looks like the oars are broken after it enters the water.
