In a plane mirror why the images formed are laterally inverted?

Due to refraction, if we look at the back of plane mirror, it is coated with a silver layer. When light rays enters the mirror get bounced back from the silver coated layer. Thus reflection occurs but in first, due to refraction we get literally inverted image.
