The average molecular weight is 5350, the total number of molecules is 600, and the degree of polymerization is 8.91

Explanation:

100 molecules of molecular weight 100

200 molecules of molecular weight 1000

300 molecules of molecular weight 10000

Number of Average molecular weight=\frac{M1N1+M2N2+M3N3}{N1+N2+N3}

= \frac{(100)(100)+(200)(1000)+(300)(10000)}{100+200+300}

=5350 is the average molecular weight

and the total number of molecules is 600

  • The degree of polymerization (Dp) is equal to the number of monomeric units in a macromolecule or polymer molecule.
  • It is equal to \frac{Mn}{Mo} where Mn is the number average molecular weight and Mo is the molecular weight.

Dp =\frac{5350}{600}

The degree of polymerization is calculated as 8.91
