In a pond , ripples are sent and a floating object goes up and down 6 times in 15 sec . The

wave crests are 0.4 m apart. Calculate :-

(i) wavelength

(ii)frequency(f)

(iii)speed of sound wave (v)

(iv)period of the wave (T)

Answer:

(i) wavelength = 0.4 m

(ii) frequency = 2/5 Hz or 0.4Hz

(iii) Speed of sound wave = 0.16 m/s

(iv) Time period = 5/2s or 2.5s

Explanation:

  1. In the question it is stated that the wave crests are 0.4m apart from each other. We know, that the wavelength is the distance between two consecutive crests or two consecutive trough. So, we get the answer as 0.4 m
  2. it is said that he ripples goes up and down 6 times in 15 sec. We know, that frequency is the number of compression or rarefaction that moves through a point. So the Frequency = 6/15 Hz or 0.4 Hz

    3. The speed of the sound we know the formula as ,

wave velocity = Frequency x Wavelength

          So, v = 0.4 x 0.4

          So, v = 0.16 m/s

     4.  We know, Time period = 1/Frequency

           so, time period = 1/(2/5) or 2.5s
