At the time of projection, the particle's speed is u and the particle's speed at the highest point the particle's speed is ucosθ. So, the change in speed is,

Δu=u−ucosθ

Now, the initial velocity is,

u=ucosθi^+usinθj^

and the final velocity (at highest point) is,

v=ucosθi^

Therefore, the change in velocity is,

Δv=u−v=ucosθi^+usinθj^−ucosθi^=usinθj^

⇒∣Δv∣=usinθ
